Do poets have a social responsibility? What are the ethical implications when poets obtain creative inspiration from the society of which they are part? And what, if anything, can a poet be said to owe his or her society? Is there such a thing as 'poetic obligation'? Can poetry address problems and issues in a society, and how?

At the reading "Poetry & Society", our featured Cha contributors (Donald Berger, Michael O'Sullivan and Chris Song) will answer some of these questions. They will also be reading selected poems, either by themselves or by others, that discuss and explore the relationship between poetry and society.
